Alma Jean (Koches) McKinstry Smith, 80 of Newton Falls entered into eternal rest on Friday, April 10, 2015 at Laurie Ann Nursing Home. Alma was born on January 17, 1935 in Niles, the daughter of Frank & Jessie (Pollock) Koches. Alma, or Jeannie, as she preferred to be called, has lived in Newton Falls since 1953, formerly of Lordstown. She was a 1951 graduate of Lordstown High School. Jeannie married Bryan C. McKinstry on October 12, 1953. They were married 28 years before his passing on September 29, 1981. She married Eugene Allen Smith on August 22, 1986. Eugene passed away on December 21, 2012 after 26 years of marriage. Jeannie was a member of the First Congregational Church of Newton Falls, where she served as a deacon. In November 2008, the congregation elected her to the position of Life Deacon. She also was a member of the Order of Eastern Star Chapter 79 in Newton Falls. In her early years, she showed horses with Sunset Brigade, earning numerous ribbons. Bryan and Jeannie enjoyed boating with the Niles Y Cruise Club, and she taught Eugene to dance, and they followed the Del Sinchak Band. She enjoyed oil painting and raising AKC Collies and Labrador Retrievers. Loving memories of her will be carried on by her sons, David McKinstry of Newton Falls, Roger (Teresa) McKinstry of Thompson, daughter Judy Papic of Anniston, AL, step-daughter Deborah (Donald) Anderson of Boardman, step-son, David (Tina) Smith of Canfield, brother, Donald (Margaret) Koches of Lordstown, 7 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Jeannie was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, and her son, Bryan Scott McKinstry. An Eastern Star Service will be held on Saturday, April 18, 2015 at 4:00 pm followed by a memorial service at the First Congregational Church, 612 W. Broad St., Newton Falls, OH 44444. Family and friends may call one hour prior to services from 3:00 - 4:00 pm. Cremation has taken place and Jeannie will be laid to rest next to her husband, Bryan in Newton Falls Cemetery. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to The First Congregational Church of Newton Falls, or to a charity of your choice.
