Alvara Marie (Park) Phillips, 88, of Warren passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Friday, Dec. 21, 2012, at Meridian Arms Living Center in Youngstown due to a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on Nov. 16, 1924, in Cleveland, the daughter of the late William Howard Park and Alice (Kuratkowska) Park. She was raised by her father and lifelong mother, Anna, after her mother passed away when she was a very small child. Alvara married the love of her life, Earl Kenneth Phillips on Jan 29, 1943, and they enjoyed 57 years of marriage together until he passed away on April 25, 2000. She had lived in Weathersfield Township for the past four years, formerly of Lake Milton, Indiana, and Arizona. Alvara worked at GC Murphys and K-Mart for 25 years until she retired in 1982. She loved to watch football, baseball, going to Las Vegas, making crafts, and sewing. Alvara was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Peggy Cox and Agnes Leonardy; brother William James Park; and son-in-law William Wiott. Memories of Alvara will be carried on by her loving family, daughter Joan Wiott of Demonte, Ind.; daughter and son-in-law Dorothy and Clyde Lay of Pricetown; sister Dorothy Lhotan of Dallas; brother and sister-in-law Thomas and Ellen Park of Orange Park, Fla.; two granddaughters and their husbands, Lori and Brad Metts and Melinda and Shane Storey; four grandsons and their wives, Larry and Paulette Lay, Lance and Jennifer Lay, William and Stephanie Wiott Jr. and Earl and Ashley Wiott; and 14 great-grandchildren.
