Obituary

Bernard Benson, age 85, of Southington, passed away into eternal life on Sunday, April 22, 2018 at his residence of natural causes.

On September 15, 1932, in Slate,WV Pete Hubert & Violet Genevieve (Henthorn) Benson were blessed with the birth of their son, Bernard.

Bernard married the love of his life, Marilyn James on June 26, 1955 and they enjoyed 58 years of marriage together before she passed away on November 7, 2013.

Bernard had lived in Southington since 1955 formerly of Nelson, Garrettsville and West Virginia. He worked as a supervisor for Denman Tire for many years before retiring in 1992. He also worked at the Ravenna Arsenal.

Bernard was a member of the US Army. He enjoyed going to garage sales, painting pictures, woodworking, fishing, hunting, entertaining friends with magic tricks and being with his dog & companion "Lucy". Most of all Bernard loved spending time with the grandchildren.

Memories of Bernard will be carried on by his loving family; his daughters Lois & (Fred) Davis of Southington, Sue & ( John ) Slider of Warren; his son Douglas & (Carolyn) Benson of Champion; his sisters Naida & (Raymond) Carpenter of Vienna, WV, Lois Kay Hilton of Rootstown, Shela & (Barry) Bailey of Orwell; his brother Chuck Benson of Windham; his 6 grandchildren & 9 great-grandchildren.

Bernard is preceeded in death by his parents, his wife Marilyn and a granddaughter.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, April 26, 2018 from 6:00 to 8:00PM at the James Funeral Home in Newton Falls. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, April 27, 2018 at the funeral home at 10:30AM. Bernard will be laid to rest next to his wife,Marilyn, at Meadowbrook Park in Champion.
