Bertie Mae Gump, 88 of Wayland passed away peacefully into eternal life, on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at her home. Bertie was born on August 23, 1926, in Fairmont, WV the daughter of the late Samuel E. & Willa Mae (Hillberry) French. Bertie married the love of her life, James Howard Gump Sr. on August 29, 1942. James and Bertie were blessed with 60 years of marriage before he passed away on August 19, 2002. Bertie has lived in Paris Township for 70 years, where she was a member of the Baptist Bible Church. She was a member of the Lake Milton Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School. Bertie loved to do word searches and exercise at Curves. She was a Paris Township Firebelle. She enjoyed gardening and watching hummingbirds. Memories of Bertie will be carried on by her loving family; her daughters, Mary Ann Evans of Akron, Deborah &Ted Boston of Paris Twp.; her son James & Marlene Gump Jr. of Charlestown, OH ; 11 grandchildren & 12 great-grandchildren. Bertie is preceded in death by her parents Willa & Samuel French, her husband James, son, Dennis Gump, and three sisters, Bertha Newell, Nancy Imhoff & June Batson. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, May 3, 2015 from 1:00 to 3:00 pm at James Funeral Home. Funeral services will immediately follow at 3:00 pm. Bertie will be laid to rest beside her husband James at Hawley Cemetery in Paris Twp.
