Cecil Roger Pitney, age 77, originally of Shelby,OH departed this life peacefully on Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at his home in Newton Falls, with his family by his side. He was born on March 15, 1937, in Shelby, OH the son of the late Paul J. Pitney & Dolly (Bushong) Pitney. Cecil married the love of his life, Lola Marie Barnhart on July 7, 1958 and they enjoyed 56 blessed years of marriage together. He and his wife Lola have lived in Newton Falls for 44 years. Cecil had worked at the G.M Fisher Body Plant in Mansfield, OH then in Norwood, OH and then finished at General Motors Fab in Lordstown. Cecil retired on Oct. 1, 1999 from General Motors in Lordstown after 38 years of working as a Millwright. Cecil and Lola were long time members of the Church of Christ in Warren. He was also a member of the UAW #1714. He enjoyed watching sports (especially the Cleveland Browns & Indians), playing golf and doing crossword puzzles. After retirement, Cecil and Lola were able to do some traveling. He is survived by: his devoted wife of 56 years Lola Marie Pitney of Newton Falls; his daughters & their husbands Annette & Steven Russell of Newton Falls, Lisa Wright of Delaware, OH Melissa & Elmer Channell Jr. of Newton Falls; his son & his wife Alan & Kimberly Pitney of Hudson; his sister Margaret (Peggy) Pitney of Tabernacle ,NJ; his brothers & wife Royce & Joy Pitney of Leesburg, FL, Joe David Pitney of Russellville, AR. Cecil was blessed with 8 grandchildren; Erin & Michael Vasseur, Paul Pitney, Logan Pitney, Shawn & Abbey Russell, Kelly Russell, Jennifer Russell, Jessica Wright, and Hallie Wright. He was also blessed with one great-grandchild: Brooks Vasseur. Cecil is preceded in death by his parents,and one sister Patricia Atkinson. Calling hours will be held at the James Funeral Home in Newton Falls on Sunday, July 6, 2014 from 4 to 7 pm. Memorial Services will be at the funeral home on Monday, July 7, 2014 at 11:00AM with Pete Nash officiating the service.
