Doris J. Blackhurst age 74 of Newton Falls passed away peacefully into eternal rest on Sunday, April 28, 2024 at her daughter's residence in Hudson, Florida. She was born on Nov. 23, 1949 in Dayton, PA the daughter of the late Floyd Edward Johns and Ida Mae (Gamble) Johns. She graduated from Jackson Milton High School in the Class of 1969. Doris had lived in Newton Falls for 3 years, formerly of Deerfield for many years. She married the love of her life, William A. Blackhurst on March 6, 1981, and they enjoyed 28 years of marriage together until he passed away on June 9, 2009. Doris worked as a Assistant Supervisor B & R Johnson in Akron for 10 years, and Delta in Middlefield, OH for 2 years. She loved watching TV, listening to music very loud, watching football and baseball especially the Ohio State Buckeyes and Pittsburgh Steelers. Doris is preceded in death by her parents, her husband William, two sisters: Dorothy Smith and Carol Earl, one brother: Earl Johns, and most recently her boyfriend of many years: Jack Boatner.
She is survived by: one daughter: Tonya Friend of Hudson, FL, two sons: Jeff (Jennifer) Friend Youngstown, Jared Friend of Sabina, OH, one brother: Floyd (Tina) Johns of New Concord, OH, five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at the James Funeral Home in Newton Falls on Friday, May 10, 2024 at 11:00am. Calling hours will be one hour prior at the funeral home from 10:00am to 11:00am. Doris will be laid to rest at Vaughn Cemetery in Lake Milton, OH.
