Braceville
In Loving Memory of Dottie Lou Fincham McCartney
Dottie Lou Fincham McCartney departed this life on Thursday, August 20, 2026, at St. Joseph Hospital, surrounded by the people she loved most—her husband, children, and grandchildren. After a life filled with love, faith, family, and many trials, Dottie is now at peace and resting in the arms of her Lord and Savior.
Dottie was born on March 30, 1943, in Adolph, West Virginia, the daughter of Arthur & Edith (Armstrong) Fincham, one of 14 children. On February 13, 1960, she married the love of her life, William McCartney. Together, they shared 66 years of marriage, building a life and a family rooted in love, faith, and devotion to one another.
Dottie and William made their home in Braceville, Ohio, where they raised five children. She was preceded in death by her beloved daughters, Mary Pratt, Dawn McCartney, and Lynn Bartek; her grandson, Joshua McKendree; her brothers, Carl, Claire, Shirley, Doyle, Neil, and Charles; and her sisters, Catherine, Opal, Linda, and Patty.
Left to cherish Dottie’s memory is her devoted husband, the Pastor William McCartney; her sons, Ralph (Theresa) McCartney and Ross (Loretta) McCartney, all of Braceville; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. As well as countless nieces and nephews. Her family was her greatest earthly blessing, and she treasured every phone call, visit, hug, and moment spent with them.
For more than five decades, Dottie stood faithfully beside her husband as the beloved First Lady of First Assembly of Pentecost, where together they pastored for 53 years. She was not only a pastor’s wife, but a woman of tremendous faith, strength, compassion, and devotion. Through years of joy, heartache, loss, and hardship, Dottie continued to place her trust in God. Her faith was the foundation that carried her through some of life’s most difficult seasons.
Dottie loved the simple blessings of life. She loved her flowers, her garden, and spending time outdoors. She especially loved her grandchildren and took great joy in watching her family grow. She had a way of making those she loved feel important, cherished, and remembered.
Above all else, Dottie loved God. Her relationship with Him was at the very center of her life. Through every trial and every heartache, she endured, she held onto her faith, believing that God would carry her through. Her life was a testimony of perseverance, love, and unwavering faith.
The family would also like to extend their deepest and most heartfelt gratitude to the ICU and IMCU staff at St. Joseph Hospital. During an incredibly difficult and painful time, the care given to Dottie went far beyond medical treatment. The compassion, tenderness, patience, and affection shown to her and to her family will never be forgotten. Every act of kindness, every comforting word, and every moment spent caring for Dottie meant more to the family than words can express. We will forever be grateful for the tremendous care you gave our mother and for the dignity and love you showed her during her final days.
Though her family will deeply miss her presence, they can find comfort knowing that Dottie is no longer suffering and has received the eternal rest she so faithfully believed in. Her legacy will live on through her husband, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchild, and the many lives she touched throughout her 83 years.
Dottie’s life will be celebrated at First Assembly of Pentecost in Braceville, Ohio. Calling hours will be held Monday evening from 5:00–7:00 p.m., and again Tuesday from 12:00–1:00 p.m., with funeral services beginning at 1:00 p.m.
Following the service, Dottie will be laid to rest in Braceville Township Cemetery, where she will rest overlooking her beloved daughters.
James Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
“Her faith carried her through this life; now her faith has carried her home.”
