Obituary

Edward "Frank" Holesko, 88, entered into eternal life on Monday, October 13, 2014, at his home in Newton Falls. Frank was born in Warren, Ohio on May 1st, 1926. He was the eighth of ten children born to Anna Mrofchak and Stephen Holesko. He is survived by his youngest brother, Robert Holesko (Florence) of Newton Falls. As a young man, Frank joined the Army to fight for his country during WWII. He was a paratrooper and was awarded a Bronze Star with a "V" device. When he returned home, he courted and then married Marian Lyle on August 31st, 1946. Together Frank and Marian worked to build their farm and raise their five daughters. Along with farming, Frank always worked a full-time job. He was a crane operator, an electrician and a welder repairman. His main places of employment were North American Rockwell and General Motors. During his thirty years of employment at North American Rockwell, he served many years as the Master of Ceremonies for the annual summer amusement park picnic and the annual Christmas program. He loved planning and running the children's games and seeing the children's faces when he handed out the Christmas stockings. He retired from General Motors in 1991, but continued farming, raising corn and soybeans, well into his eighties. Frank loved every day. Dressed in his denim overalls, he would often look out over the farm and ask how there could ever be a better place on earth. Frank loved hard work. He truly felt it was a privilege to put in a day's work. Additionally, he loved poetry, singing, history, and philosophical and political discussions. Frank always had either a song or a poem that fit any circumstance or occasion, a trait that his wife, daughters, and grandchildren loved and admired. He had a great voice, which, in his younger years, he used to call square dances at Champion Danceland. Because of his great love and knowledge of politics, philosophy, and history, he would certainly never back down from a debate over these topics. Above all else, family was the most important part of Frank's life. His love for his wife, daughters and sons-in-law, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren radiated through his smile. He and his wife created a familial bond second to none. During Thanksgivings and Christmas Eves in the basement of the home he built, everyone would come together and he would beam with pride as he looked at all of the family. Frank is survived by Marian "Soonie" (Lyle) Holesko, his loving wife of 68 years; his five daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley Staton (Arvie) of Newton Falls, Susie Jakubek (John) of North Jackson, Sandee Whipkey (Dave) of Mineral Ridge, Sara Paskert (Tom) of Canfield, and Stephanie Page (Bob) of Newton Falls; his ten grandchildren; and his fourteen great-grandchildren. He will be immensely missed by his family for his loving heart, his ability to do anything, his quick wit and sense of humor, and his love of learning, poetry, song, and life. His family will try to follow Frank's advice and "keep a poem in our pockets and a song in our hearts". Frank was preceded in death by 4 sisters, Helen, Ann, Margaret, and Virginia, 2 brothers, Stephen and George and 1 great-grandson, Trevor. Frank will be forever loved and greatly missed by his wife, family and friends. Calling hours will be at the James Funeral Home in Newton Falls from 5:00 - 8:00 pm on Friday, October 17, 2014. There will also be calling hours on Saturday October 18, 2014 from 8:00- 9:00am with a short prayer service to celebrate Frank's life beginning at 9:00 at the funeral home.
