Edwin M. Ballas, age 87 of Newton Falls entered into eternal rest on Monday February 29, 2016 at his residence. Edwin was born on October 11, 1928 in Newton Falls the son of the late John & Dorothy (Polahar) Ballas. Edwin married the former Helen Irene Smith on January 15, 1949. Edwin and Helen have been blessed with 67 wonderful years of marriage. Edwin started out as a steelworker with Ideal Foundry. He then worked for Republic Steel which became LTV Steel for 35 years. Edwin was a member of the Steel Workers Union 1375. He was an active servant of the Lord at the First Church of God in Newton Falls where he taught adult Sunday School and was co-chair of the Golden Agers at the church. Edwin was the President of the Newton Falls Democratic Club and a Trumbull County Democratic Precinct committeeman. He has been a member of the Newton Falls School Board for 20 years and a member of the Lake Milton Boat Club. His greatest love in his life, aside from his family, was his service to His Savior, Jesus Christ. His desire was that everyone would accept Jesus as their personal Savior, so when "The roll is called up yonder" you'll be there! He's waited a long time to hear "well done my good and faithful servant." Loving memories of Edwin will be carried on by his wife, Helen I. Ballas of Newton Falls, daughters, Sherry (Edward) Freisen of Newton Falls, Linda S. Ballas of Holland, Ohio, daughter-in-law, Cynthia "Ballas" (Gary) Gray of Cortland, grandchildren, Kalin (Jeff) Myers, Andrea (Ben) Gumont, Bethany (Doug) Hughes, great grandchildren, Olivia, Grant & Karlee Myers, Allie & Emma Gumont, Brady, Avery & Addison Hughes. Edwin was preceded in death by his sons, John David Ballas, Ronald E. Ballas and his brothers, Andrew Ballas & John Ballas Jr. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, March 3, 2016 from 3:00 - 6:00 pm at the First Church of God, 426 W. Broad St., Newton Falls, OH 44444. Funeral services will immediately follow at 6:00 pm at the church. Edwin will be laid to rest at Newton Falls Cemetery.
