Elbert B. O'Neal age 96, of Newton Falls passed away peacefully into eternal life on Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at Trumbull Memorial Hospital of natural causes. On March 6, 1914, in La Follette, TN, Elbert & Mattie (Brown) O'Neal were blessed with the birth of their son, Elbert. Elbert married the love of his life, Laura Jane Lyons in 1935 and they enjoyed 50 years of marriage together before she passed away in 1985. Elbert had lived in Newton Falls since 1942 working as a Fireman for the Ravenna Arsenal for 35 years before retiring in 1979. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in La Follette and was a social member of the VFW in Newton Falls. Elbert enjoyed collecting pictures of Thomas Kinkaid, Elvis Presley, and Princess Diana. He also enjoyed collecting hats, family gatherings, and traveling to Tennesse and Florida. Memories of Elbert will be carried on by his loving family; his daughter & her husband Judy & Paul Goehring of Newton Falls; his son Gary O'Neal of Leavittsburg; his sister Appie Smith of Clinton,TN; his grandsons and their wives Dr. Dennis & Lori Goehring of Austin, TX, Daniel & Rochelle Goehring of Erie, PA; his granddaughters and their husbands Christina & George Sipka of Fishers, IN, Shannon O'Neal of Columbus, Shelley & Chris Goussios of Warren; and 9 great-grandchildren. Elbert is preceded in death by, his parents, his wife Laura, six sisters, and one son Stanley O'Neal. Funeral Services will be held at the James Funeral Home in Newton Falls on Monday, January 24, 2011 at 1:00PM with Rev. Steven Spurlock officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home 2 hours prior to service time from 11:00AM to 1:00PM on Monday. Elbert will be laid to rest next to his wife in Newton Falls Cemetery.
