Obituary

Elma "Jean" Scott Morris August 17, 1928 - December 1, 2024

E. Jean Morris passed away the morning of Sunday December 1, 2024. She was proud to have lived a full and good life to the age of 96. We all knew NEVER to call her Elma, but she was happy to be called Jean, mom, grandma, and Memmow. Jean was born August 17, 1928, in Green County Pennsylvania to Frank and Emma Stewart Scott where she said the air was so pure there was nothing like it. Jean found her matching puzzle piece in Kermit Morris, marrying and later moving to Ohio in 1948.

Jean was an active member of her "Red Hatters" (Scarlet Bonnets) group, enjoyed bible study as a member of Lakeview Assembly of God, as well as playing cards and bocce ball. Because she was a mother of seven, grandmother of ten, great grandmother of another ten, and a friend to many, you had to call and schedule in advance to see her because her calendar was often full. In Ohio's sporadic pleasant weather, you would often find her on the swing out back reading a book, sipping on Coca-Cola Classic in a bottle, breathing in the scent of her flowers as her favorite birds would flutter on by. She loved to travel, providing vivid, cherished memories for her children and grandchildren. She valued written correspondence, loved ones often receiving postcards and cards with various clippings and memorabilia from her - something to treasure in remembrance now.

Jean is survived by JoAnn Newman of Niles, Ohio; Janet (David) Gordon of Lake Milton, Ohio; Ron (Debbie) Morris of Lake Milton, Ohio; Kermit (Linda) Morris of Leavittsburg, Ohio; and Gary (Lisa) Morris of Ravenna, Ohio; ten grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and a niece Norma Jean Buber of North Bloomfield, Ohio.  Preceding her in death is her husband, Kermit Morris; her daughters, Karen Yohman and Deborah Claybourne; her grandson, John Thomas "JT" Claybourne; one sister; seven brothers; and her parents.

Calling hours will be from 10:30 to 11:30AM on Monday, December 9, 2024 at Lakeview Assembly of God in Lake Milton, Ohio, followed by A Celebration of Life at 11:30AM. Per Jean's wishes, cremation has already taken place. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Newton Falls Public Library, 204 S. Canal St. Newton Falls, OH 44444 or to the Down Syndrome Association of the Valley at <https://givebutter.com/EB3RWm>.
