Obituary

Angels rejoice in the calling of God's beloved daughter Esther Ellen Snyder of Newton Falls to come home. Esther passed out of this world on May 27, 2010, at the age of 82 at Windsor House at Champion of complications of a stroke. On July 2, 1927, in Bristolville, Ohio, Harry Adam and Clauda Sara (Atwood) Johnson were blessed with the birth of their daughter, Esther, the youngest of eight children. On June 11, 1960, she married the love of her life, Harold Robert Snyder. They were married until his death 46 years later on July 17, 2006. Esther loved her country. Her favorite colors were red, white, and blue. She enjoyed reading (especially her bible), watching her birds, writing in her journals, and traveling and maps. And cookies, she claimed to have never met a cookie she did not like. She was a great cook; her ketchup and legendary bread and butter pickles will be particularly missed by several members of her family. Happily, she also enjoyed writing down her recipes! Esther's family always brought her great joy and she could be counted on for advice and at times, that "look" to set you straight! Esther has lived in Newton Falls since 1945. She worked the polls for the Trumbull County Board of Elections, and taught Sunday school at the First Church of God in Newton Falls as well as serving on the Benevolence Committee and in the Living Files department. She was also a charter member of the Harvest Point Church of God in Lordstown. The life of Esther was a celebration of her love of God and her family. She was quick to laugh and quick to give. Her wisdom, strength, determined spirit and faith were and will continue to be a guiding light for her family and friends. Esther is survived by her children, Sandra Lance, Robert Beckett, Carol (Jim) Leoma, William (Lillian) Beckett, Terri (Charles) Baldwin, Donna (Stanley) Czeck, stepdaughters, Catherine Hall, Carolyn (Dennis) Sheesley, and Margaret Vance, her sister-in-law, Shirley (Robert) Frantz, and her dog, Aurora. And dozens of loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great, great-grandchildren. She will be gathered into the arms of her family that have preceded her in death: Her parents, her husband, two brothers and five sisters, her step-daughter Roberta Cottrell, grandsons, Casey Cottrell, Shawn Beckett, and Keith Hall, and her great-granddaughter Sara Lance who will surely be at the gate waiting! The family will receive friends at James Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 1st from 5:00 to 7:00 PM with services at 7:00. The Reverend Donald Peace will officiate. Cremation will follow and the burial will be at Newton Falls Cemetery. The family requests that material tributes be made in memory of Esther to: UH Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospital, Pediatric Division of Neuro-Oncology, 11100 Euclid Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio 44106 in care of Alan Cohen, MD. The family wishes to express their sincere thanks for all who have visited and comforted Esther during her illness. Special and most heartfelt thanks go to Dr. Subhash Khaterpaul, Hospice of the Valley, and the wonderful staff at Windsor House at Champion. Arrangements have been entrusted to James Funeral Home, 8 E. Broad Street, Newton Falls, OH 44444.
