Obituary

Evelyn Laverne (Liming) Wilhelm, 76, of Deerfield entered into eternal rest on Thursday, January 29, 2015 as a result of an auto accident in Mahoning County. Evelyn was born on July 1, 1938 in Franklin County, IN, the daughter of Wilbur & Grace (Frerking) Liming. Evelyn graduated from Ross High School in Ross, OH in 1956. She earned her Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from Central Missouri University in 1962 and her Master's Degree in Education Administration from Northern Illinois University. Evelyn taught for more than 20 years in schools in Ohio, Texas, Missouri and the Chicago, Illinois area. She also served as an Assistant Principal. Evelyn married Irven Wilhelm on June 6, 1981. After falling in love in their youth, years and circumstances led them in different directions. As their siblings, Stanley and Anita married, they spent many year as friends. Years later, they rekindled their love and enjoyed 33 years of marriage before passing together in this fatal car accident. They were truly lifelong soulmates. All her life, Evelyn loved working with children and their families. A compassionate and caring woman, Evelyn was always helping a neighbor, rescuing an animal, or sending sweet messages and news articles or jokes from the paper to family and friends. She traveled all over the world with her beloved mother, Grace and sisters, Anita and Jeanette. A woman of faith, she was a member of Mt. Moriah Lutheran Church in Berlin Center. She enjoyed music, flower gardening, (especially roses), traveling, her church membership and church activities, horse racing, bingo, casinos and spending time with her family. Loving memories of Evelyn will be carried on by her stepdaughter & son-in-law, Dorene & Doug Shirey of Medina; grandchildren, Dr. Ryan (Aimee Mepham) Shirey of Winston-Salem, NC; Dr. Kristen (Stephen McDonough) Shirey of Durham, NC; and her sister and best friend, Anita Wilhelm of Miamitown, OH. She was like a second mom to her nephews Michael and Richard, and nieces, Michelle and Nicole. She is also beloved by many other nieces, nephews, and grand and great-grand nieces and nephews. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Jeanette Kerwin. Calling hours will be held for Irven & Evelyn on Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2015 from 4:00 - 6:00 pm at Mt. Moriah Lutheran Church, 4626 S. Pricetown Rd., Berlin Center, OH 44401. Funeral services will immediately follow at 6:00 pm at the church. Internment will be in Harrison, OH. Memorial donations may be made to Angels for Animals or Mt. Moriah Social Ministries.
