Fern E. Edwards, age 89 of Lake Milton died Tuesday, July 24th 2012 at the home of her son,Thomas. Born in Tamaqua, PA, she was the daughter of the late William and Viola Correll DeArmit. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 65 years, Pershing O. Edwards. Surviving are her five children; Gail C. Moore (Ellis) of Canfield, Diane F. Edwards (Paul Lubianetzky) of Cortland, Sheila M. Klegg of Lake Milton, Thomas W. Edwards (Charlette) of Diamond, and William D. Edwards (Jacqui) of Lake Milton. She was also preceded in death by her brother Wesley J. DeArmit in 1980. Fern was an avid reader. Before moving to Ohio in 1942, she played the Scotch drum in the Tamaqua H.S. Girls band and performed at the 1939 New York World's Fair. Mrs. Edwards was a certified Red Cross water safety instructor, teaching hundreds to swim, as well as teaching junior & senior life saving classes. She also volunteered for the old Lake Milton Elementary School as a sick room attendant. Fern spent years involved with both the Campfire Girls and Boy Scouts. Those of you who knew Fern will remember her as a kind soft spoken compasionate person. Along with her husband Pershing, Fern raised purebred dairy goats and were active in several Senior Citizens Groups. They enjoyed square dancing for 29 years, belonging to 5 square dance clubs. Fern enjoyed sewing their dance outfits. She enjoyed camping and traveling with her family. In her later years, she received many awards for swimming in the Senior Olympics. She will be most rememberd as a loving, caring, Mother who's love was unconditional. Others may remember her as a warm, respectful. nonjudgmental friend, who always offered a helpful hand. Other survivors include, her niece Joy Farbes of PA, nephew David DeArmit of FL, 10 grandchildren,17 great grandchildren, and 4 great great grandchildren. Calling Hours will be at the James Funeral Home in Newton Falls on Friday, July 27th, 2012 from 6:00 to 8:00PM. Funeral Services will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, July 28, 2012 at 10:00AM. Fern will be laid to rest by her husband, Pershing in Vaughn Cemetery.
