Obituary

George Franklin Powell, Sr., age 68, of Braceville, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his friends and family on Saturday Jan 31, 2015 at 4:40 am. He was born on February 15, 1946 in Washington, DC, the son of the late Erwin John Powell Sr. and Ruth Angeline (Woodcock) Powell. George married Teresa Ann Cutright on December 31, 1981 and they enjoyed 30 years of marriage until she passed away on November 1, 2011. George has since married Lori Armstrong of Melbourne, Florida on August 16, 2014. George has lived in Braceville since 2005, but formerly of Calvert County, Maryland. George worked for the Office of the Sheriff, Prince George's County, Maryland for 30 years retiring in 2005 as a Lieutenant. He is a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and the Deputy Sheriff Association, Lodge 112. George enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, and especially being with his family. He is survived by: his wife: Lori Powell of Braceville, 2 daughters: Cecelia M. Sage of White Plains, MD, Kaitlyn A. Powell of Braceville OH, 2 sons: George F. Powell, Jr. of Munster, IL, Kyle Powell of Braceville, OH, 3 sisters: Bonnie V. Schneider of Alamogordo NM, Sandra & Andreas Tsanganelias of Springfield, VA, Rebecca & Mark Barnes of Crestview, FL, 2 brothers: Erwin & Rosalyn Powell Jr. of Pace, FL, James R. Powell of Daleville, AL, 4 grandchildren: Amber Powell, Brendan, Savannah and Sophia Sage, and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and beloved friends. George is preceded in death by his parents, and his wife Teresa. Calling hours will be held at the James Funeral Home in Newton Falls, OH on Friday Feb. 6, 2015 from 6-8 pm. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Saturday Feb 7, 2015 at 1:00 pm with Reverend Eugene A. Koene officiating the service. George will be laid to rest beside his wife Teresa at Lutheran Cemetery in Newton Falls. The family has requested that all donations be made to the American Cancer Society East Central Division Northeast Region OH, 525 North Broad St. Canfield, OH 44406 in memory of George F.
