Gerald W. Hughes, age 84 of Newton Falls, entered into eternal rest on Sunday May 7, 2017 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on October 25, 1932 in Diamond, OH the son of the late Charles Evan & Hazel (Ruggles) Hughes. Gerald married the former Alice Marie Sickle on January 1, 1954. Gerald and Alice have been blessed with 63 years of marriage. They have lived in Newton Falls since 2004 formerly of Diamond. Gerald was a veteran of the US Air Force. Gerald worked for Rankin Pattern in Ravenna as a Pattern Maker. He also worked at Diamond Pattern Shop, Firestone Tire, State Pattern, Akron Pattern and retired from American Steel Foundry in Alliance. He was a member of the Charity Masonic Lodge, American Legion Post #713, and the Amvets Post #1112. Gerald enjoyed wood working, golfing and fishing. Gerald is survived by his loving family, his wife, Alice Marie Hughes of Newton Falls, daughters, Connie (Richard) Beal-Cornelius of Diamond, Colette (Ed) Westfall of Diamond, Lori Coss of Deerfield, brother, Ronald Hughes of Deerfield, 6 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Gerald was preceded in death by brothers James & Charles Hughes Jr. and sons-in-law, Stephen Coss and Thomas Beal. Per Gerald's wishes, cremation has taken place. Gerald will be laid to rest at Palmyra West Cemetery in Diamond, OH.The family has requested that all memorial contributions may be made to the Palmyra West Cemetery Chapel Fund c/o Palmyra Twp.
