IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Gertrude J.
Pittman
September 9, 1930 – August 23, 2024
Gertrude (Gerty/Trudi) J. Pittman age 93 of Newton Falls passed away peacefully into eternal rest on Friday night Aug. 23, 2024 at Trumbull Memorial Hospital in Warren. She was born on Sept. 9, 1930 in Warren, OH the daughter of the late Frank Fiorese and Gertrude (Kager) Fiorese. Gerty was a lifelong resident of Newton Falls, OH and married Robert M. (Bob) Pittman on September 2, 1961. She attended Newton Falls High School, where she was active in intramural sports. After graduation in 1948, she attended Kent State University and Youngstown State University. In 1950, she began teaching first grade and was also active as a director of the senior class plays. During summer vacations, Gerty, Bob, and their daughter Barbara traveled extensively throughout the US. She finally retired in 1990 after 40 years as a first-grade teacher, allowing her to spend time with her husband, traveling, tooling around in their corvettes, and wintering in Myrtle Beach, SC. Although retired, she still found ways to be active in education by joining and becoming the President of T.A.R.C (Trumbull Area Reading Council), bringing in published authors to present for the organization, teaching adult reading classes for the county and starting the "Babes To Readers" program at area hospitals. A program that furnished books for new moms and their babies to encourage a love of reading at a young age. She was a lifelong member of St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Newton Falls, where she served as President of the Parish Council.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Robert (Bob) Pittman of Newton Falls, their daughter, Barbara (Mark) Malobabich of Beaver, PA and her beloved granddaughter, Alaina Malobabich.
The family would like to thank all the nurses and doctors on the 4th and 6th floors of Trumbull Memorial Hospital for the wonderful care they gave Gertrude.
