Helen Florene Mercandino, age 90, of Warren passed away peacefully into eternal rest at 8:45 pm on Sunday, April 25, 2010, at Autumn Hills Care Center in Niles, OH. Helen was born on Jan. 23, 1920 in Clarksburg, WV, the daughter of the late Claude Percy Hayes and Jeanetta Marie (Thompson) Hayes. She married the love of her life Elmer J. Mercandino on Aug. 10, 1935 and he passed away after 63 years of marriage on Feb. 3, 1999. Helen has lived in Warren since 1999 formerly of Howland and West Virigina. Helen is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Elmer, and 1 brother Charles Hayes. She is survived by 2 daughters and son-in-laws: Sherry & Glenn Gray of Liberty, Reina & Philip Taylor of Hartford Twp., OH,; 2 sons and daughter-in-laws: Roy & Nancy Mercandino and Terry & Janet Mercandino all of Champion, OH; 2 brothers and sisters-in-laws: Larry & Shirley Hayes of Columbus, OH, Claude Percy(Skip) & Sharon Hayes of Clarksburg, WV; 15 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service for Helen will be held at the Pleasant Vally Evangelical Church in (Liberty Twp) Niles, OH, on Saturday May 1, 2010 at 1:00 PM. The family will receive friends from 12:00 to I:00PM prior to service time. Helen will be laid to rest beside her husband Elmer at Howland Twp. Cemetery.
