It is with heavy hearts, we say goodbye to James (Jim) Howard Gump, Jr., age 57, of Charlestown Twp, after a long battle with cancer. Jim passed away at the Seidman Cancer Center in Cleveland on Tuesday Dec. 18, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on May 18, 1961, in Ravenna, OH the son of the late James Howard Gump Sr. & Bertie Mae (French) Gump. He met his high school sweetheart, Kathleen Ann Kline and were married on Aug, 15, 1980 and they divorced after 19 years of marriage in Dec. 1999. Jim served his country faithfully in the US Army, and was very proud of his service time. Then Jim met Marlene G. Perkins and married her on October 16, 2004 and they have enjoyed 14 years of blessed marriage together. Jim has lived in Charlestown Twp for 34 years, formerly of Wayland, OH.
He worked as an Operations Manager for Friend's Office Inc. (Formerly Kent Office Supply) in Kent for over 21 years before retiring in May 2018.
Some of Jim's passions were: dirt track racing his #71 Mod Lite at Deerfield Raceway, Nascar, being in the outdoors, watching all sports, fishing, being with his grandkids and cars. He raced motocross as a kid; and while the kids were growing up, he was Scout Leader of the Boy Scouts Troop #555 in Ravenna, leading his troop to various parks throughout the country. Jim is preceded in death by his parents, and 1 brother: Dennis John Gump.
He is survived by: his loving wife Marlene G. Gump of Charlestown Twp, OH; his daughter Samantha & (Ben) Morgan of Wayland; his sons Jeff D. Gump of Wayland; Dennis R. Gump of Charlestown Twp, OH, William & (Vicki) Gump of Diamond; his 2 sisters Maryann Evans of Akron, Debbie & (Ted) Boston of Paris Twp; stepchildren: Jack & (Jessii) Bias of Hanover, VA, Jessica Bias of Rupert, WV, Jennifer & (Bryan) Klich of Aurora, OH, his 13 grandchildren: Makayla Morgan, Preston Morgan, Faith Laskos, Trevor Gump, Landon Gump, Emmerson Baird, Breanna Bias, Abbi Bias, Cassi Bias, Emma Ames, Jack Klich, Olive Klich and Sophia Klich; his 1 great-grandson: Carter Bias.
Calling hours will be held at James Funeral Home in Newton Falls on Saturday, December 22, 2018 from 11:00AM to 2:00PM. Funeral Services will immediately follow at 2:00PM at the funeral home with Pastor Fred Bays officiating. Cremation will follow the service.
