Obituary

James C. Peace, age 96 of Newton Falls, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday June 16, 2013 at the Hospice House in Poland with his loving family by his side. He was born on April 19, 1917 in Landrum, SC the son of the late Ansel Grover Peace and Ollie Mae (Pruitt) Peace. James was the oldest of 10 children. On December 5, 1938, James married the love of his life, Margaret Elledge in Spartanburg, SC and they had four children: Don, Eddie, Freddie, and Linda. Together they were anxiously waiting for their 75th anniversary this coming December. Before James moved his family to Newton Falls in 1951, he worked in the cotton mill in South Carolina. In Ohio, he began working for M & M Builders, and after graduation of their children, with Margaret by his side they traveled the United States, where James continued his job, as he supervised the building of high-rise apartments for M & M Builders. He was proud to have both his son Fred and grandson Jim work and train under his leadership. James always loved his job. In 1983 James retired from M & M Builders. James attended Newton Falls First Church of God for many years, until his health would no longer permit him to attend, he was actively involved with its various workings and served in many areas of the church throughout the years as: Youth Director, Young- Adult Teacher, Adult Sunday School Teacher, sang in the choir, and also sang base in the Peace Family Quartet, was one of the first church bus drivers, served as chairman on the Board of Trustees, served on Church Council, was a Scout Master of Troop #67 and served on the Scout Council for many years.James was a member of the Civil Defence. He was a faithful member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters Union for over 50 years. James enjoyed reading westerns, and especially reading his Bible, fishing, and was a handyman who could build or fix anything. James also enjoyed playing his guitar and attending Southern Gospel Concerts. Memories of James will be carried on by his wife : Margaret Peace of Newton Falls, 2 sons and daughter in laws: James (Don) & Becky Peace of Newton Falls, Eddie C. & Verna Peace of North Carolina, 1 daughter and son in law: Linda & Andy Hospodor of Streetsboro, OH, a daughter in law: Kay Peace of Newton Falls, 1 sister: Thelma Hendrix of Taylor, SC, 1 brother and sister in law: Lorance & Fannie Mae Peace of Taylor, SC. James also leaves behind many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great -great grandchildren, along with many nieces & nephews and friends who loved him dearly. James was preceded in death by his parents, 1 son Freddie Peace, 4 sisters and 3 brothers. The family will receive friends for calling hours from 5 - 7 pm on Wednesday June 19, 2013 at the James Funeral Home in Newton Falls. Funeral services will be at the First Church of God in Newton Falls on Thursday June 20, 2013 at 11:00am with Pastor Rob McFarland officiating. James will be laid to rest at Newton Falls Cemetery. The family has requested that all memorial donations be made to the Hospice of the Valley in memory of James C. Peace.
