James Bernard Thomas, age 86, of Newton Falls passed away peacefully into eternal rest on Wednesday, January 25, 2017, at St. Joseph's Eastland Hospital in Warren. He was born on Nov. 27, 1930 in Dayton, PA the son of the late John Bernard Thomas and Emma Grace (Rupp) Thomas. James has lived in Newton Falls since 1967, formerly of Dayton, PA. He served his country in the US Army during the Korean War. James married the love of his life, Minnerva M. Wolfe on April 7, 1952 and they enjoyed 60 years of marriage together until her death on Nov. 5, 2012. He worked as a Company Controller at Van Huffel Sheet &Tube in Warren, OH for 28 years. Then he worked as a Company Controller at New Wilmington Cheese Factory in New Wilmington, PA until his retirement in 1988. James was a member of the Kiwanis Club in Warren, and the American Legion in Newton Falls. James was actively involved with the Trumbull County Cystic Fibrosis Foundation for over 40 years. James also loved to race go karts, restore old cars, and was the neighborhood mechanic. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife: Minnerva, 1 daughter: Stacey Lynne Thomas, 1 brother: Raymond Eugene Thomas, and 2 sisters: Lois Marie Thomas & Mary Elizabeth Thomas. James is survived by: 2 sons: Douglas Lee Thomas of Killeen, TX, David James Thomas of Newton Falls, OH, 1 sister: Deane Farester of Kittanning, PA. Funeral services will be at the James Funeral Home in Newton Falls on Sunday Jan 29, 2017 at 2:00 pm. Calling hours will be two hours prior to service time from 12:00 - 2:00 pm. Cremation will follow the service. James will be laid to rest with his wife at Newton Falls Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that all donations please be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation 6931 Arlington Road 2nd Floor Bethesda, MD 20814 in memory of James & Minnerva Thomas.
