James D. Underwood Jr. age 95 of Newton Falls passed away peacefully into eternal rest on Saturday morning July 19, 2025 at the Austinwoods Rehab Healthcare Center in Austintown, OH.  He was born on Dec. 2, 1929 in McDonald, PA the son of the late James William Underwood and Lillie Helen (Pastor) Underwood.  James married the love of his life Louella Kerr on Feb. 13, 1954 and they enjoyed 55 yrs of marriage together before her passing on July 29, 2009.  James worked as a Heavy Construction Superintendent at the Ruhlin Company for 28 yrs retiring in 1995.  He was a veteran of the US Marines Corps, the Newton Falls United Methodist Church, and the Newton Falls Masonic Lodge #462 for many years.  He enjoys doing housework, mowing & working out in the yard, fishing, hunting, traveling, and taking care of his family.  James is preceded in death by his parents, wife Louella, 1 son: Todd Underwood, and 3 sisters: Ruth Amos, Emilie Herrod, and Esther Coleman.

James will be dearly missed by his family:  2 daughters: Trudy & Robert Dils of Waynesville, MO, Traci & Ben Cook of Newton Falls, 2 sons: Thomas & Lori Underwood of Newton Falls, Timothy & Patty Underwood of Newton Falls, 9 grandchildren: Ashley, Emma, Tomithia, Abbey, Ben, Noah, Adam, Colton, Melinda, and 16 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at the James Funeral Home in Newton Falls on Friday July 25, 2025 at 1:00pm with Rev. Steve Spurlock officiating.  Calling hours will be from 11:00am - 1:00pm.  Cremation will follow the service. He will be laid to rest beside his wife Louella at Lutheran Cemetery in Newton Falls.
