Jean Marcella Lewis, age 95 of Newton Falls passed away peacefully into eternal life on Wednesday, December 10, 2014 at Laurie Ann Nursing Home in Newton Falls. She was born on May 20, 1919 in Newton Falls, OH the daughter of the late Harold Clermont & Elizabeth Mae (Shepherd) Wolcott. Jean married Russell L. Lewis on November 20, 1941. They enjoyed 53 years of marriage together before he passed away on January 21, 1994. Jean lived in Newton Falls all her life, graduating from Newton Falls High School in 1937, where she was the first homecoming queen. She began teaching piano at the age of 13, and later attended Kent State University and Dana School of Music. She continued teaching piano and organ for over 50 years from her home. Her love of music was her testimony of faith and willingness to share her gift with others. She was a member of Sach's Club, where she enjoyed many years of friendships with the fellow members. Jean was a devout Christian, a lifetime member of the Newton Falls United Methodist Church, where she was the organist for over 60 years. She was a member and past president of the United Methodist Women and attended adult Bible classes & Sunday school. Jean was an avid reader and enjoyed taking walks along the river. Being a lifelong resident of Newton Falls, she enjoyed volunteering in the history room of the library. She will always be remembered by her family and her friends for her unwavering faith, loving encouragement and kind, gentle spirit. Cherished memories of Jean will be carried on by her loving family: her daughters, Diane Mitten of Indianapolis, IN, Darla ( Paul) Stefaniak of Newton Falls; her son & daughter-in-law, Dennis ( Darleen Conner) Lewis of Stow; 6 grandchildren, David (Tara) Lewis, Kristina (Jason) Sanders, Darcy (Steve) Horning, Amy Mitten, George Mitten, and Nicole Stefaniak; and 4 great grandchildren, Lauren, Jack, Vivian and Andrew. Jean is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Russell, sister Lorraine Potter, and brother Harold Wolcott. The family would like to thank the staff at Allan Dell and Laurie Ann Nursing Home for their loving care. Calling hours will be held at the James Funeral Home in Newton Falls on Sunday, December 14, 2014 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm. There will also be calling hours at the Newton Falls United Methodist Church on Monday, December 15, 2014 from 10:00 to 11:00 am, where a funeral service will immediately follow at 11:00am. Jean will be laid to rest beside her husband Russell at Newton Falls Cemetery. The family asks that all contributions be made in the form of donations to the music department at the Newton Falls United Methodist Church 336 Ridge Rd.
