Joseph Thomas (Tony) Edmonds age 77 passed away peacefully into eternal life at his home Tuesday, December 7, 2010 with his loving family by his side. He was born on August 8, 1933 in Florence, SC the son of the late Willis Thomas Edmonds and Margaret Catheryn (Sellers) Edmonds. Tony, as he was known by his friends, grew up and graduated from Florence High School in South Carolina. He then joined the Navy and served on the battleship SS Marshal in the Korean War. Tony married the love of his life, Norma J. Gatta on May 18, 1957 and she survives. Tony and Norma have lived in Newton Falls for 42 years formerly of Niles. He was the manager of the City Loan in Newton Falls for 28 years and was the owner/opertator of Carolina Auto Sales in Newton Falls. Tony was a member of the Newton Falls American Legion Post #236, The Newton Falls VFW Post #3332 and the Amvets Post #112. One of his hobbies was making wine and sharing it with family and friends. He also enjoyed fishing very much. Besides his wife of 53 years Norma J. Edmonds of Newton Falls he will be greatly missed by his daughters and son- in -laws; Cathy & David Brookfield of Columbus, Robin and James Garay of Strongsville; his sister and her husband Doris and Paul Green of Charlotte NC; his brother and wife Jim and Ida Edmonds of Bristol, TN; his grandchildren Gretchen Sinn, Abbey Wade, Maggie Sinn, Jonathon and Michael Brookfield; and his great- granddaughter Jayda Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents,and 1 brother Harold Edmonds. Calling hours will be Saturday, December 11, 2010 from 10:00AM to 12:00PM at the James Funeral Home in Newton Falls where funeral services will follow at 12:00PM. The Rev. Edward Arrington II will be officiating the service. Tony will be laid to rest in Newton Falls Cemetery where there will be a Veterans Service held by the Newton Falls Honor Guard.
