Pastor Joshua N. Moore Sr. October 7, 1936 - June 4, 2025

With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Pastor Joshua N. Moore Sr., a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, friend, and spiritual leader. Born on October 7, 1936, in Swainsboro, Georgia, to Mattie and Devotie Moore. He was the elder of three brothers: Devotie Moore, Jr. (Mary), Warren, OH; Nick Charles Moore, Kansas City, MO; Frederick Allen (Moore) Brandon, FL; two sisters: Violet J. Smalls (Thomas, Sr), Lake Placid, FL, and Aquilla Carter (Fred), Plant City, FL

Growing up, Pastor Moore was a bright child and was able to skip the fifth grade and advance to the sixth grade. He graduated from Eugene O. Douglas High School in Sebring, Florida, and went on to serve in the U.S. Army as a paratrooper in the 11th Airborne Division and the 105th Airborne Division in Munich, Germany. He received an honorable discharge in 1958. Pastor Moore's spiritual journey began when he united with the Shiloh Baptist Church in 1948, where he served in various capacities, including junior deacon, youth leader, Sunday School teacher, and secretary, director, and teacher of the B.T.U. Department. He later joined the First Baptist Church of Windham in 1965, serving as chairman of the deacon board and on the trustee board under three pastors: Rev. Robert Macrany, Rev. Isaiah Moss, and Rev B. Sadler. Pastor Moore's educational pursuits included attending the American Baptist Theological Seminary, Cleveland Bible College, and Trinity Bible College, where he received his Bachelors of Theology degree. He also earned an associate's degree in Sociology and a PhD from Cleveland University, as well as a Doctorate of Divinity Degree from Trinity Bible College. Called to the ministry in 1970 and ordained in 1972, Pastor Moore was called to pastor at the First Baptist Church of Windham in 1975, serving for seven years. He also served as interim pastor at Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Wren, Georgia, Friendship Baptist Church in Girard, Ohio, and First Baptist Church-Braceville, where he was later called as pastor in 1985 and served until his retirement. In his personal life, Pastor Moore married Patricia Ann Gordon on November 13, 1958, and they had eight children: Pierre Moore (Preceded him in death); Joshua (Jenny) N. Moore Jr. of Kansas City, MO; Connie (Lewis) Michelle Lindsey of Summerville, SC; Wendy Libia Moore of Chesapeake, VA; India Nicole Moore of Kansas City, MO; Yolanda Elaine Moore of Newton Falls, OH; Adrian Maurice Moore of Warren OH; and Holly Renee Moore of Durham, NC. He also had a distinguished career as a supervisor at General Motors in Lordstown, Ohio, retiring after 30 years of service. Pastor Moore's community involvement included serving as president of the Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance, board member of the Alliance Community Outreach Program, board member of St. Joseph Hospital, and moderator of the New Era Baptist District Association and Affiliate Churches. Under his leadership, the A.D. Carter Memorial Scholarship Fund was formed, and he played a key role in starting the Congress of Christian Education (COCE). His motto, "I am just an ordinary man whom God has done extraordinary things for," reflected his humility and faith. Pastor Moore is survived by his wife, Patricia; seven children; 20 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters; two brothers; and a host of nieces and nephews. His legacy of love, faith, and service will continue to inspire generations to come. May he rest in peace, and may the family find strength and comfort in the love and support of those around them.
