Karin Elisabeth (Norby) Mathews, age 65, of Chagrin Falls passed away peacefully into eternal life on Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at the Avenue of Aurora Nursing Facility. Karin was born on September 20, 1952, in Cleveland, the daughter of the late Dr. Richard G. & Marjorie J. (St.Clair) Norby.

Karin lived in Chagrin Falls for the past 10 years, she was a 1970 graduate from Laurel School in Shaker Heights. Karin graduated in 1974, Magna Cum Laude, from Saint Olaf College in Northfield, MN with two bachelor degrees in French and English. She attended graduate schools in Massachusetts and New York towards her Masters degree. Karin was a French teacher for the Cleveland Public Schools for twenty years before retiring in 2000, and then was a substitute teacher in Geauga County Schools up until her illness. Karin was a member of the Church of the Holy Angels in Bainbridge, OH. Karin enjoyed ice skating, waterskiing, writing, poetry, French cuisine, traveling to Europe and visiting with family & friends.

Memories carried on by her 2 loving sons: Jonathan R. Mathews of Boston, MA, and Kevin E. Mathews of Kent, OH; her brother and sister- in- law: Thomas and Mary Norby of Mendota Heights, MN, her niece and nephews, Aunt Suzie and Uncle Dale Loomis, her ten cousins, and second cousins, her ex-husband and sister- in- law, Michael and Charlene Mathews, and many friends and Norby relatives. Karin is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Erik (Rick) Norby and two aunts; Carol Hilbig and Joan Hampton.

The family asks that contributions be sent to Laurel School, French Department, 1 Lyman Circle Shaker Heights, Ohio 44122 in memory of Karin E. (Norby) Mathews.

Calling hours will be held on Monday, May 7, 2018 from 12:00 - 2:00 pm at James Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 pm at the funeral home. Karin will be laid to rest at Newton Falls Cemetery.
