Obituary

Katharine Elisabeth Apger, age 99, of Newton Falls passed away peacefully into eternal rest on Sunday, January 15, 2017 at Brookdale Alliance in Alliance, OH. Katharine was born on August 7, 1917 in Aliquippa, PA the daughter of the late Charles & Florence (Pelesh) Dickey. She married Glenn A. Hurley in May 20, 1942 and after a divorce he passed away on May 26, 1977. She married Louis Eaken on Aug 7, 1965 and he passed away on Nov. 12, 1983. Katharine then married John C. Apger on Mar 12, 1992 and he passed away on May 11, 2005. She worked as a registered nurse in the pediatrics department at St. Joseph Riverside hospital in Warren for 25 years before retiring in 1980. Katharine was a 60 year member of Newton Falls United Methodist Church, a Newton Falls High School graduate in the class of 1935, and a graduate of the St. Thomas School of Nursing, Akron in 1938 as a Registered Nurse. She was a member of the Pythian Sisters and the Literary Club both in Newton Falls. Katharine enjoyed crafts, baking pies and cookies, gardening, canning and crocheting homemade "Scrubbies". Memories of Katharine will be carried on by her loving family; her sons: Ralph (Joanna) J. Hurley of Alliance; Roger L. Hurley (Mary Kay Felton) of Camden, ME; her step-daughters: Linda Collins and Kay Gary both of Newton Falls; her step-son Gerald (Carol) Apger of Lordstown; sisters: Margaret Petty of Warren, and Pauline Dickey of Columbus; several grandchildren, step-grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Katharine was preceded in death by her husbands: Glenn, Louis, and John, step-daughter Jeanette Bailey; two step-granddaughters; four sisters: Mildred Kozup, Ann Chopko, Mary Dudick, Helen Dickey and three brothers: Pete, John and William Dickey; and four brothers-in-law: Charles Kozup, Michael Petty, John Dudick, and Ed Chopko. Private family burial will be held. A Memorial service will be held at the Newton Falls United Methodist Church on Saturday Feb. 11, 2017 at 11 AM. Katharine will be laid to rest next to her second husband Louis "Bus" Eaken at Lutheran Cemetery in Newton Falls.
