Lonnie L. Ensminger, 77 of Southington passed away on May 15, 2024, after a stoic battle with Pancreatic and Liver Cancer. In his final days, he was surrounded by family. We shared stories about him and joked about his sharp sense of humor.

Lonnie was born on May 18, 1946, in New Freeport Pennsylvania. He was the son of Earl Gayle Ensminger and Ruth (Hinerman) Ensminger. Lonnie was a graduate of West Greene High School, Rogersville, Pennsylvania Class of 1965. Lonnie was promptly drafted into the Marine Corps for the Vietnam War. He served his country proudly for 2 years. Once released from service, he married the love of his life, Sharon F. (Ealy) Ensminger. They were married for 55 years.

They moved to Warren, Ohio on the day they were married because Lonnie had a job with Ohio Corrugating. He worked for them for 19 years. Lonnie then worked at various jobs until retiring from Chagrin Valley Country Club. Lonnie was an avid hunter and planned hunting season for the entire year leading up to the event. He also enjoyed woodworking and spending time with his family.

Lonnie was a Southern Baptist by faith. He served as a deacon for Austin Village Baptist church several years while his kids were young.

He leaves behind his wife Sharon Ensminger, Daughter and Son in law Chris and Carla Fluharty of Hundred WV, and Son and Daughter in law Matt and Kim Ensminger of Southington, Ohio.

Dad went by many names: Lonnie, My Baby, Corporal, E4, 1st Marine Division, Hon, and Daddy. The name he was most proud to be called was Poppa. He leaves behind Katie Ensminger of Southington, Ohio, Sarah Ensminger from Southington Ohio, and Christian Fluharty from Hundred WV. They loved him dearly and will always cherish the tractor and sled rides that were freely given.

Lonnie was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Peg Main, Joann Plants, Gerry Antil, and Lois Tustin. He has two servicing siblings Bud Ensminger and Jeanine Thompson.

We were able to care for Dad at home because of the following services: Veterans Affairs, Cornerstone Care Service, and Hospice of Southern Care. We would never have been able to care for him at home without their help.

According to Lonnie's wishes, cremation will take place and he will then be buried at Greene County Memorial Park in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania during a private family gathering.
