Obituary

Marguerite E. Harris, age 92, of Mantua passed into eternal life on January 3, 2012 with her family by her side. On December 18, 1919 Albert John & Lulu E. (Eckert) Ufert were blessed with the birth of their daughter, Marguerite. Marguerite married the love of her life, Frank Westover Harris on April 2, 1942 and they enjoyed 60 years of marriage together before he passed away on October 15, 2002. She had a long-term relationship with Kent State University. She first came to the campus at the age of 35 to pursue her bachelors degree. She graduated, cum laude, in 1964 with a degree in art education. Later she returned to campus to serve as a substitute teacher . Marguerite became a student again in the early 1970's, earning her master's in education in 1974. Marguerite enjoyed being an artist. She worked as a teacher for Southeast Schools for 15 years before retiring in 2000. She also worked as a collections specialist at the Kent State University Museum. Marguerite became "notorious" for her treatment of paper hair on the mannequins,had curated many of the glass exhibitions, taken care of objects in storage and made enormous contributions to the museum. Addition to her work on the museum's exhibits, she had the opportunity to help restore some of the dresses at the museum. Memories of Marguerite will be carried on by her loving family; her niece & husband Roberta Collier & Butch Shultz of Mantua; and her niece Pamela Ruffino of Houston, TX. The family asks that all contributions go in the form of donations to Cross Roads Hospice, or Kent State Museum of Design. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at a later date. Marguerite was preceded in death by two brothers William & Robert Ufert.
