Mary Ann Benish, age 97 of Newton Falls passed away peacefully into eternal rest on Saturday Feb. 11, 2017 at her residence surrounded by her loving family. She was born on August 1, 1919 in Warren, OH the daughter of the late Anthony Spagnola and Genevieve (Stupino) Spagnola. Mary lived in Newton Falls all of her life, and married Walter N. Benish in 1934. They enjoyed 52 years of marriage together until he passed away on Dec. 18, 1986. She was a member of the St. Mary & St. Joseph Catholic Church in Newton Falls for many years. Mary enjoyed sewing, ceramics, cooking, and baking. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Walter, 1 daughter: Shirley A. Benish-Richards, 3 brothers, 2 sisters, and 1 grandson: Christopher Richards. She is survived by: 1 daughter: Susanne Bodnar of Newton Falls, 1 son: Richard Benish of Youngstown, 1 sister: Jennie Sanders of Utah, 1 brother: Tony Spagnola of Warren, OH, 3 grandchildren: Shirley Baker, Katie Benish, & Thomas J. Bodnar and 1 great grandson: Michael Baker. Calling hours will be at the James Funeral Home in Newton Falls on Tuesday Feb. 14, 2017 from 9:00 - 10:30am. Funeral services will immediate follow at 10:30am. Father Thomas Ungashick will officiate the service. Mary will be laid to rest beside her husband Walter at St. Joseph Cemetery in Newton Falls.
