Mary Y. Hall, surrounded by family, passed away on June 1, 2012 at 1:17 pm at St. Joseph Hospital of natural causes. Born on September 28, 1923 in Byesville, OH, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Clarence & Effie Florence (Cale) Young. She married the love of her life, James A. Hall on June 5, 1943 and they enjoyed 37 years of marriage together before he passed away on July 25, 1980. She graduated from Byesville High School in 1942 and received her BS in Education from Kent State University in 1968. Mary was a third grade teacher in Newton Falls for 25 years before retiring in May of 1985 and establishing the Mary Y. Hall Educational Scholarship for Newton Falls High School seniors intending to enter the teaching profession. She was also a past president of the Trumbull County Retired Teachers Association and a member of the Braceville United Methodist Church where she served as Lay Leader, Delegate to Conference, Sunday School teacher and so much more. Mary also was the coordinator of Interfaith Recovery Center, which was a group formed to distribute monies and needed items to help people recover after the 1985 tornado. This led to the establishment of the Church Mouse Thrift Store. For her efforts, Mary received the Brotherhood Community Service Award in 1987 by the Free and Accepted Masons of Ohio, B'NAI B' RITH, and Knights of Columbus. Memories of Mary will be carried on by her loving family; daughter, Gloria Perez of Warren; son, Roger Hall of Portland, OR; granddaughters, Tonya Hall of Warren, Terra Perez of Warren, Amber Haynes of Columbus, Cassandra James of Portland, OR; 7 great-grandchildren and sisters; Sarah Zigmont, Virginia Shanower and Lovetta Price. Calling hours will be held at James Funeral Home in Newton Falls on Sunday, June 10, 2012 from 1:00 - 3:00 pm, where a memorial service will immediately follow at 3:00 pm. Pastor Joan Purnell will officiate. Mary will be laid to rest next to her husband in Braceville Cemetery at a later date. Mary is preceded in death by her parents, 4 brothers, Olan Young, Calvin Young, Glen Young, and Owen (Buck) Young, 3 sisters, Viola Mullen, Elizabeth Woodyard, and Lillie Greathouse.
