Obituary

Mike Guinaugh, a resident of the Acreage in Loxahatchee, FL, died peacefully in his sleep at home, May 6 while recovering from elective surgery. Michael was born July 12, 1969 in Ravenna, Ohio to Gary Mitchell (Mike) Guinaugh and Linda Kay (Jagers) Guinaugh. He graduated from Southeast Local High School in Ravenna, Ohio and then went on earn a bachelor's of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Youngstown State University. He married his longtime girlfriend and the love of his life, Tracy Jean Farris on September 5, 1992. After a brief stint at Moser Engineering, they relocated to South Florida so that Mike could pursue a music career. While waiting for his music career to take off, he took a job as an inspector with Carnahan Proctor. They soon welcomed two small boys, Michael Jonathon and Matthew Brady into their family. His band was offered a recording contract but Mike turned it down in lieu of staying home to be an on hands father. Mike worked with Caulfield & Wheeler until he climbed on board with GL Homes as Director of Land Development. In 2005, the family moved to Loxahatchee and built their dream home on six wooded acres that reminded him of the forests in Ohio. In 2009, Michael chose to start his own engineering firm, Mike Guinaugh Engineering, Inc. In 2014, as business boomed, he hired his nephew Scott Gintert to assist him in his venture. Mike was an active baseball coach and Cub Scout leader. He volunteered for anything his sons were involved with from football to marching band or JROTC. He was always at the Seminole Ridge Community high school football games as a member of the chain gang. He cheered his boys on at every sports and school event they participated in, from T-ball to Marksmanship meets. He was an avid fisherman who loved deep sea fishing almost as much as lake and river fishing with his dad when he would travel back to Ohio. He enjoyed hunting for white tail deer, horseback riding, scuba diving, snorkeling, parasailing, zip lining, combing the beach for sea glass, was a fierce pinochle player, but mostly, he loved playing guitar. He played with a variety of local bands, too numerous to name without running the risk of accidentally forgetting someone. He had a warm and inviting personality, a ready smile, a quirky and quick sense of humor and was fluent in movie quotes. He is survived by his devoted wife of 24 years, Tracy, sons Mickey and Matthew, as well as his mother Linda Guinaugh, sister Teresa (Guinaugh) McKenna and her partner Russell Stolba and sister Beth (Guinaugh) Coward. He was close with all of his nieces and nephews, Courtney (Coward) Jordan, Joe Gintert, Megan Coward, Nicholas Coward, Scott Gintert, Douglas Coward, Katie Gintert and Lindsey Guinaugh as well as all of their significant others and children. He also leaves behind his in-laws John, Marilyn and Christy Farris that miss him like one of their own, and several close aunts, uncles and cousins. He is preceded in death by his beloved father Mike Guinaugh. Calling hours will be held at the James Funeral Home in Newton Falls on Saturday, June 18, 2016 from 1:00 to 2:00 pm. A memorial service will be held at the funeral home immediately following at 2:00 pm. Michael will be laid to rest in Hawley Cemetery next to his father. Michael, Mike, Mikey, will be sorely missed by all that knew and loved him. Until we meet again my husband, father, son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, friend!
