Obituary

Michael Joseph Harnichar age 87 of Newton Falls, passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on Thursday, September 22, 2011 at his residence. He was born on April 28, 1924, in Boswell, PA the son of the late Martin Harnichar & Elizabeth (Tobias) Harnichar. The family relocated to Newton Falls when Michael was just 8 months old and he obtained his formal education from Newton Falls High School graduating in 1942. Michael worked at Packard Electric for a few years and then obtained employment at Falls Steel & Tube in Newton Falls for 20 years. He also worked for the Ravenna Arsenal and the General Motors for 16 1/2 years, retiring in 1988. Michael was a member of the US Navy for 4 1/2 years serving during WWII, including the Battle of Midway. He was also a member of the Amvets #112, VFW, American Legion and was a Newton Falls Fireman for 10 years. Michael married the love of his life Jane E. Earl on August 9, 1947 and she survives. He was a faithful parishioner of the St. Mary & St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Michael was a member of the Knights of Columbus, a Newton Falls Twp.Trustee for 28 years and a Newton Falls Councilman for 4 years. He enjoyed coaching Little League for many years, coaching basketball, making plaques, golfing, trimming trees and working in the yard. Memories of Michael will be carried on by his loving wife, Jane E. Harnichar of Newton Falls: his daughter Suzanne M. & David Bradley of Westerville, OH, their other daughter Frances Frantz of Newton Falls; his sons Michael M. & Terry Harnichar and Patrick J. & Shannon Harnichar all of Newton Falls; his sister Josephine & Frank Johnson of Cave Creek, AZ; his brothers John P. Harnichar of St. Petersburg, FL and George M. (Carolene) Harnichar of Champion; and four Grandchildren Rachael L. & Hannah L. Harnichar, & Kelsey & Ian Webb. Michael was preceded in death by his parents, 1 sister Ann Harnichar, and two brothers Steve and Joseph Harnichar. The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. on Sunday, September 25, 2011 at the James Funeral Home in Newton Falls. Funeral Services will be at the James Funeral Home on Monday September 26, 2011 at 10:30a.m. & 11:00 a.m. at the St. Mary & St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Newton Falls. Michael will be laid to rest at the Newton Falls Cemetery. The family ask that all contributions go in the form of donations to Grace Hospice 7206 Market Street Youngstown, Ohio 44512.
