Norman E. Shannon, age 75 of Lake Lure, North Carolina passed away peacefully at the Hospice of Rutherford County in Forest City on Tuesday, May 28, 2013. He was born in July of 1937 in Warren, Ohio and was the eldest son of Gilbert M. and Elizabeth Shoff Shannon. Norman was a graduate of Braceville High School and the General Motors Institute in Flint, Michigan. He married Norma J. Gillespie in September of 1959. Norman worked for Packard Electric for 37 years before his retirement in 1991. Norman and his wife relocated from Cortland, Ohio to Lake Lure, North Carolina in 1999. He is survived by his wife and by his children, Maureen Shannon of Davenport, FL and Kathleen Lee of Hilliard, OH; by his grandsons, Brian and Wyatt Lee; and by sisters Arlene (Al) Swain of Kissimmee, FL, Janet (Ron) Tennant of Ocala, FL, Cora (Jack) Williams of Peoria, AZ; and by brothers Lloyd (Kathy) Shannon of Tyler, TX and Raymond (Marsha) Shannon of Jaffrey, NH. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Dean E. Shannon. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, June 5 from 6 to 8 p.m. at James Funeral Home, 8 E. Broad Street, Newton Falls, Ohio. A funeral service will be held the morning of Thursday, June 6 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Norman will be laid to rest at Newton Falls Cemetery.
