Owen Eugene Shannon, Sr. age 84, of Braceville, passed away peacefully into eternal life on May 14, 2014 at Trumbull Memorial Hospital after an extended illness. He was born on July 26, 1929, in Valley Bend, WV, the son of the late Harmon & Reva (Kittle) Shannon. Owen married the love of his life, Allena C. Foster, on May 15, 1950 and they enjoyed 64 blessed years of marriage together. He had lived in Braceville since 1953, working as a mechanic for Harbison Walker for over 30 years before retiring in 1991. Owen served in the US Army in Germany. Owen was a member of the American Legion in Windham. He attended the Faith Evangelical Free Church in Garrettsville, He loved to be outside gardening or traveling in their motor home. Owen was a bee keeper for a number of years until he started swelling from the bee stings. Memories of Owen will be carried on by his loving family; his wife Allena of Braceville ; his daughter Nancy & James Dabney of Newton Falls; his sons Leonard & Cathy Shannon of Palmyra Township, Owen & Cristine Shannon of Kimbolten, Nelson Shannon of Rocky River; his sister Geneva & Denver Harris of Mill Creek, WV; his brothers Robert & Shirley Shannon of Morgantown,WV, Hiram "Sonny" & Esther Shannon , Kenneth & Carolyn Shannon, Benny & Delores Shannon all of Valley Bend, WV; his 9 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Owen is preceeded in death by his parents, 4 brothers & 5 sisters. Calling hours will be held at the James Funeral Home in Newton Falls on Saturday, May 17, 2014 from 11:00AM to 1:00PM. The Funeral Service will immediately follow at 1:00PM at the funeral home. Owen will be laid to rest at Braceville Cemetery in Braceville Twp.
