Obituary

Peter Ugran, age 92, of 3880 Eagle Creek Road, died Thursday, April 15, 2010, at Trumbull Memorial Hospital. He was born March 28, 1918, in Youngstown, a son of Peter and Irma (Tancer) Ugran and moved to Braceville in 1977 from Youngstown. Mr. Ugran was employed at Wiliam B. Pollock Company for 40 years and then taught at Trumbull County Vocational School for 16 years. He was an active member of the Braceville United Methodist Church, past president of the Braceville Lions Club, and a member of Braceville Senior Citizens. Peter was past master of St. Albans Masonic Lodge #677, past president of the Old Timers Club of Aut Mori Grotto, and thirty-second degree member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Youngstown from which he received the Meritorious Service Award. During WWII, Mr. Ugran served as Civilian Defense Fire Chief for the west side of Youngstown. Peter loved gardening, woodworking, and crafting metal insects in his home workshop. He was generous with his abundant harvest of garlic, asparagus and blueberries. Fishing and camping at the family campground on Eagle Creek were among his favorite pastimes. He was preceeded in death by his wife of 61 years, Susan Slanco Ugran, three brothers, Daniel, Leon and Vasile Ugran, and by two sisters, Mary Copacia and Anne Petretich. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Daniel (Carolyn) Solomon of Raleigh, NC and Mrs. Robert (Marsha) Glod of Pittsburgh, PA; two sisters, Mrs. Rose Simion of Canfield and Mrs. Valeria Hollis of Port St. Lucie, FL; one brother, Victor Ugran of Youngstown; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. In lieu of calling hours, a memorial service will be held at the Braceville United Methodist Church at 11:00 am on Saturday May 29, 2010. Mr. Ugran's family will greet guests at 10:30 am until the time of service. Memorial contributions can be made to the church memorial fund and sent to 577 Park Rd., Newton Falls, OH 44444.
