Phares E. Richmond, age 87, of Champion passed away Saturday, May 29, 2010 at Forum Health Northside Medical Center. Phares was the only son of the Rev. El and Mable Brown Richmond, born Feb. 27, 1923, in Plymouth West Virginia. He married the love of his life, Lillian P. Smith, on September 30, 1944. The Richmonds moved to Champion in 1955 and built a house on Shaffer Road, where they raised five children. He worked in the machinist trade for Packard Electric, sold real estate and had several businesses, including the popular Trumbull Trader newspaper. He enjoyed working on building projects and working on inventing better ways of making everyday products. He worked in real estate and had several rental properties he ran until he was 83 years old. He celebrated his 50th and 60th anniversary, and in September would have celebrated 65 years of marriage. When he wasn't working, he loved spending time with his family, working on cars at home, and gardening. His memories will be carried on by his wife, Lillian Richmond of Champion, and their five children, Stephen and Marcie Richmond of Warren, the Rev. Michael and Candy Richmond of Plainfield, IL, Mark and Erica Richmond of Champion, and Theresa and Garrett Grimes of Clearwater, FL He also is survived by his sisters, Rosilla King of Warren, Nora and Clayton Jones of Charleston, WV, and Esther Sammon of Lordstown. He has 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Funeral Services will be 7 p.m. Wednesday at the James Funeral Home in Newton Falls, where friends may call from 6 to 7 p.m. prior to the service. The Rev. Michael Richmond will officiate.
