Phyllis Jean (Hayner) Dean age 86 of Newton Falls entered into eternal rest on Saturday, September 19, 2015 at St. Elizabeth's Hospital. Phyllis was born on July 18, 1929 in Huntington, WV, the daughter of the late Wallace Garfield and Violet Etta (Nottingham) Hayner. Phyllis has lived in Newton Falls since February 2008, formerly of Huntington, WV. She was a teacher in Huntington for grades 7 - 12. She taught history, education, fine arts, social studies and home economics. Phyllis enjoyed her books, art and history. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Huntington since 1969 and a 50 year member of the Huntington Women's Club. During her younger years she managed her own art gallery in Huntington and was active in Republican Womens committee work. Loving memories of Phyllis will be carried on by her daughters: Paula (Steve) Maas of Newton Falls, Carol (Dean) Hall of Nashville, TN; sisters: Jerry Sydney Havens of Raleigh, NC, Sandra (Robert) Stackhouse of Fort Wayne, IN; grandchildren: Jennifer (Maas) & Jeff Alexander of Charlotte, NC, Krista (Maas) & Richard DeVilliers of South Africa, Kiley and Craig Maas of Newton Falls, and nieces and nephews. Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents and her two sisters, Phoebe Ann Bloor and Vickie Jo Hayner. Cremation has taken place and private services will be held. Phyllis will be laid to rest at Oaklawn Cemetery in Huntington,WV. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that all donations be made to the Susan B. Komen for the Cure Northeast Ohio, 26210 Emery Road Suite 307, Cleveland, OH 44128, in her memory.
