Obituary

Ralph Snyder Ross Jr., age 89, of Ravenna, passed into eternal life on Wednesday, April 2, 2014, at Robinson Memorial Hospital of natural causes with his family by his side. He was born on October 12, 1924 in Southington, OH, the son of the late Ralph Snyder & Lillian E. (Crandall) Ross Sr. Ralph married the love of his life, Pauline M. Gill on July 3, 1948. They enjoyed 65 blessed years of marriage together spending most of their married life in Nelson Twp., Ohio. He went to Michigan State Farrier School, and Ralph & Pauline owned & operated Ralph's Horse Shoeing for over 40 years in the Nelson, Garrettsville and Warren area. They have lived in Ravenna at Emeritus Assisted Living for the past 2 years, Garrettsville from 2005, and formerly of Nelson Twp. for 46 years. Ralph was a member of the U.S. Army serving during WWII where he was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He was also a member of the Disabled Veterans Chapter #11 in Warren and the VFW Post #674 in Garrettsville. He had a passion for horses and dogs and was a charter member of the Trumbull County Sheriff's Mounted Patrol for many years, and then became a member of the Portage County Sheriff's Mounted Patrol.  Memories of Ralph will be carried on by his loving family; his wife Pauline of Ravenna; his two sons & their wives Dennis & Beverly Kay Ross of Haw River, NC, Terry & Jami Ross of Cooper City, FL; his sister Betty Niemi of Lake Worth, FL.; his brother & his wife Kenneth & Sandy Ross of Woodland Park,CO; his grandchildren & spouses Timothy & Redina Ross, Shelly & Jim Householder, Zachary Ross, Kena & Joyce and Jacob Heffernan,; his great-grandchildren Trevor ,Taylor, Emma Rae Ross, Hailey Householder,Killian, Capri, Kenzie, Naale and Journey Heffernan. He is preceded in death by his parents and a granddaughter Tera Ross.  The family will receive friends on Sunday April 6, 2014 at the James Funeral Home in Newton Falls from 5-7PM where funeral services will be held on Monday April 7, 2014 at 1:00PM. Burial will be at Park Cemetery in Garrettsville, Ohio.  The family asks that all contributions be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, 4899 Belfort Road, Suite 300 Jacksonville, FL 32256 in memory of Ralph S.
