Obituary

Raymond C. McDaniel, age 93, passed away peacefully and surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, April 4, 2012 at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna. He was born on August 11, 1918 in Prairie Hall, IL, the son of the late, Ralph C. & Ida May (Thomas) McDaniel. Raymond married Geraldine Whittam on September 7, 1941 and she passed away on January 20, 1980. He then married Charlene McCurdy on December 29, 1981 and they have enjoyed 30 years of marriage together. He lived in Windham most of his life, and worked as a Millwright and Foreman for the Ravenna Arsenal for 42 years before retiring on February 8, 1984. Raymond served his country faithfully in the US Navy during WWII. He was a member of the First Church of God in Newton Falls, where he served on the Board of Trustees, and was a member of the Golden Agers. He also was a member of Portage Computer Users Group, and the Windham American Legion Post #674. He was a charter member of the APCO Fish & Wildlife Conservation Club and served as the APCO Chief Game Warden Officer for the annual deer hunts for many years. His backyard was certified by the State of Ohio Division of Wildlife and the National Wildlife Federation as a "Backyard for Wildlife" site. Some of Raymond's passions were hunting, fishing, gardening, and especially his family. Memories of Raymond will be carried on by his: wife Charlene McDaniel of Windham; his daughters Judith & Ronald Von Blon of Tiffin, Regina & Donald Washabaugh of Port St. Joe, FL; his step-son Jeffery & Kathy Horn of Rootstown; a daughter-in-law Sheila McDaniel & a sister-in-law Irma McDaniel, 9 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Geraldine, 1 son Jerome McDaniel, and two brothers Charles & Tom McDaniel, and 1 sister Dorothy McDaniel. The family asks that all donations please be made to the First Church of God for Faith Promise Missions 426 West Broad St. Newton Falls, OH 44444. Per Raymond's request cremation has taken place. A Memorial service for Raymond will be at the First Church of God in Newton Falls on Sunday April 15, 2012 at 3:00 pm with Rev. Arnold Edmondson officiating.
