Obituary

Richard W. Kerlin "Santa Rick" age 73 of Newton Falls passed away do to complications from a quadruple bypass surgery on Thursday morning July 25, 2024 at the Cleveland Clinic.  He was born on Jan. 18, 1951 in Youngstown, OH the son of the late Charles W. Kerlin and Phyllis I. (Mundy) Kerlin.  Rick has lived in Newton Falls for over 30 years, formerly from Austintown where he graduated from Austintown Fitch High School in the Class of 1969.  He worked as a self-employed contractor for 40 years retiring in 2014.  Rick was best known for his role as Santa Claus (AKA Santa Rick) and donating his time in the community for 25 years.  He loved fishing, swimming, football (especially the Dallas Cowboys), and going to all his grandchildren's sporting events. His main love was spending time with his children and grandchildren. Rick is preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by: 2 daughters: Wendy & Sam Marhulik of Newton Falls, Kelley Kerlin (Mat Bielski) of Austintown, OH, 1 son: Gregory & Billie Kerlin of Newton Falls, 1 sister: Joyce & Don Thorpe of Bluffton, SC, 7 grandchildren: Taylor, Tara, Tyler, Torrie, Tiffany, Jacob, Cameron, and 2 great grandchildren: Elliana, and Dawson.

Funeral services will be at the James Funeral Home in Newton Falls on Thursday Aug.1, 2024 at 4:00pm with Rev. Daniel Wilson officiating.  Calling hours will be from 1:00- 4:00pm. Cremation will follow the funeral service.  Rick will be laid to rest at Newton Falls Cemetery.
