Richard "Richie" F. Shiley, age 76 of Newton Falls, passed away at his residence surrounded by family on Sunday, December 15, 2024 after a brief battle with cirrhosis of the liver. He was born on September 19, 1948 in Youngstown, and was the son of Frederick Richard Shiley and Mary Katherine (Pezdir) Shiley.  Richie lived in Newton Falls since 1976, formerly of Niles, where he graduated from Niles McKinley High School in the Class of 1966. After high school, he joined the US Navy serving during the Vietnam War from 1966-1969. He then married the love of his life, Diane Lynn Ross on April 17, 1971, and they have enjoyed the past 53 years of marriage together. Richie worked in construction for 36 years, retiring from Great Lakes Construction as a Construction Superintendent in 2007.  He was an active member of the Newton Falls Amvets Post #112 for many years.  Richie also served on the Newton Township Zoning Board of Appeals.  He loved fishing, hunting, traveling and visiting botanical gardens in each city,  throwing horseshoes, shooting darts, ice fishing, March Madness, playing softball, and watching sports - especially The Ohio State Buckeyes, Cleveland Browns, and Duke Blue Devils basketball.

He is survived by his wife, Diane L. Shiley of Newton Falls, daughter, Crystal (Matt) Bulford of Newton Falls, daughter Denise Shiley (Kenny Clegg) of Mineral Ridge, grandson Thayne Shiley (Kayla Helgeson) of Rochester, MN, grandson Sammy Kriebel IV (Desiree Brown) of Bristolville, and Godson Frankie (Nikki) Dillon of Cranberry, PA.  Sisters, Mary Lou Fletcher of Niles, Rosemarie (Gary) Hulett of Lordstown, Sandy Barton of Pine Knot, KY, Nancy (Leroy) Culver of Howland, brother John Shiley of Fort Myers, FL. and several nieces and nephews.

Richie is preceded in death by his parents and one brother, William Shiley.

Funeral services will be at the James Funeral Home in Newton Falls on Saturday Dec. 28, 2024 at 12:00 pm, with Pastor Jennifer Dorn officiating.  Calling hours will precede the funeral service from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm. Cremation will follow the funeral service. He will be laid to rest at St. Stephen Cemetery in Niles.  The family has requested that donations please be made to the Newton Falls Amvets Post # 112,  37 West Broad St. Newton Falls, OH 44444 in his memory.
