Obituary

Robert Eugene Berry, age 87 of Southington, passed Friday, May 11, 2018 at his home. Robert, known as Bob, was born April 30, 1931 in Cleveland, Ohio, a son of Francis A. and Mary (Neininger) Berry.

Bob was born at home in Cleveland, the sixth of twelve children. He attended Holy Name High School. Bob served his apprenticeship for tool and die at Noble and Stanton in Bedford. During the Korean Conflict, he served two years in the Marine Corp and then returned to Noble and Stanton. He went to work at Ford Motor Company for a few years, then to Chrysler Corporation where he was employed as a general foreman in Twinsburg. While working full time, Bob attended Cleveland State University, where he obtained his bachelor of science and master of science degrees in business administration. He transferred to Chrysler Corporation in Sterling Heights, Michigan, where he retired as superintendent of automation and die setters after 30 years of service on September 30, 1987.

Many days and weekends were spent on his Luhrs fishing boat, docked at Lake Erie. Bob was an exceptional host, taking both friends and family out on his boat for fishing and sightseeing excursions.

South Florida on the Gulf Coast was a favorite wintering spot of his for many years. Bob rebuilt his residence following the aftermath of Hurricane Wilma. He enjoyed the camaraderie of his woodworking friends and the annual Woodworking Club Dinner.

Bob remained extremely active in retirement, enjoying golfing, woodworking, construction, visiting 49 states, and traveling overseas with extended family to Ireland. While in Ireland, he kissed the Blarney Stone, and the family visited the town where his grandmother had lived.

Bob leaves his wife Hope Hurd Berry, sons R. Brian Berry, R. Craig Berry, stepdaughter Tona L. Moore, and stepson Don L. (Mary) Lydic. He leaves grandchildren Sara Berry, Korie Varkala, Robbie Berry, and Samantha Berry. Step-grandchildren include Don L. Lydic III, Bill (Ashley) Lydic, Allan Lydic, and Erica M. Moore (Wesley O'Connor). Bob leaves eight great-grandchildren, a brother, Richard (Maryann) Berry of Denver, Colorado, a sister, Rita Berry of Denver, Colorado, and a sister-in-law, Maryann Berry of Bedford.

Bob was preceded in death by stepson Chris L. Lydic, stepson-in-law Thomas D. Moore, brothers Charles, Jack, James, William, Gerald, and Dennis, and sisters Mary Depompel, Frances Lillis, and Margaret Kainec.
