Obituary

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Robert G. Smith, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, who left this world on Sunday July 5, 2026, at his home surrounded by the family he cherished. Born on August 31, 1955, in Massillon, Ohio, Robert was a beacon of love and laughter throughout his 70 years. Robert, affectionately known as Rob, was the beloved son of the late Walter C. Smith and Etta Pearl (Nicholas) Smith. He joins them and his infant brother, Martin, in eternal peace. Throughout his life, Rob embodied resilience and warmth, traits that endeared him to all who crossed his path.

On February 2, 1974, Robert married the love of his life Sherry B. (Beckinger) Smith. Their union, marked by unwavering devotion, spanned 52 beautiful years. Together, they built a family grounded in love and laughter, leaving behind a legacy in their daughters: Sheila (Stacey) Hoffaker, Jennifer (Bryan) Smith-Hoffaker, and Tracy (Thomas) Colosimo. Rob's grandchildren, Trenton and Evan Hoffaker, Lillian (Andrew) McGinnis, and Emilia Colosimo, along with his great-grandson Arlo McGinnis, will always remember him as a fun-loving grandfather who never missed an opportunity to share a joke or a story. Rob also leaves behind his sister, Sharon Smith, and nephew, James Smith.

Rob was an avid hunter and fisherman, passions he eagerly shared with his family. His love for automobiles was unparalleled; from a young age, he could identify any car on the road, down to its make, model, and engine type. His mischievous spirit in his teenage years was often a source of humor, as he recounted tales of his youthful antics with a twinkle in his eye.

Beyond his hobbies, Rob was a man of quiet strength and compassion. His dogs Chelsea, Rommel, Riley, and Lila, held a special place in his heart.

In Robert's memory, the family has chosen to hold a private ceremony, honoring his wishes for a peaceful farewell. They invite those who wish to honor Rob's memory to consider donations to The Healthy Hearts and Paws Project 909 Martin Luther King Blvd SW Warren, OH 44485, an organization close to his heart.

As his family lovingly reflects, "In the end, it's not the big celebrations that define a family, but the quiet ways they show up for each other every day." Rob's legacy lives on in the hearts of those he touched, a testament to a life well-lived, filled with love, laughter, and an indomitable spirit. May his memory be forever a blessing.
