Roger Dale Sanford, age 63, of Newton Falls passed away peacefully into eternal life on Wednesday, March 7, 2012 at 2:53AM at St. Joseph Eastland Medical Center after a long courageous battle with cancer. On November 3, 1948 in Weston, WV, Paul Andrew & Mildred Loyce (Smith) Sanford were blessed with the birth of their son, Roger. Roger married the love of his life, Sandra Lee Nichols, on June 14, 1969 and they were blessed with 42 years of marriage together. Roger had lived in Newton Falls since 1966 working as a welder, electrician and as a skilled tradesman at General Motors since 1979. He was a member of the US Army serving during the Vietnam War. Roger loved riding his Harley and taking vacations to his cabin in West Virginia and his grandchildren. Memories of Roger will be carried on by his loving family; his wife, Sandra of Newton Falls; his daughter Carrie & Grant Thorndyke of Rootstown; his son Roger & Gin Sanford of Decorah, IA; his sisters Paulette Watkins of Champion, Valerie Sanford of Newton Falls, Diane Johnson of OH; his brother Douglas & Shelly Sanford of CA; grandchildren Noah Edward Thorndyke, Nichole & Danielle Aldredge; and great grandchild Brooke Jevne. Roger is preceded in death by his parents, step-mother Connie Sanford and a sister Ginger Sanford. Calling hours will be held at the James Funeral Home in Newton Falls on Saturday, March 10, 2012 from 1 to 3 p.m. Funeral Services will directly follow at 3 p.m. Roger will be laid to rest at Edinburg Cemetery.
