Ruth Marie Layshock, age 92 of Newton Falls passed away peacefully into eternal life on Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at Shepherd of the Valley in Howland. Ruth was born on July 21, 1924 in Washington, PA, the daughter of the late David R. & Martha Lillian (Cain) Smith. Ruth has lived in Newton Falls since 1942. Ruth married Joseph J. Layshock on June 2, 1945. Ruth and Joseph were blessed with 58 wonderful years of marriage before his passing on May 1, 2003. Ruth was of the Roman Catholic faith and was a lifelong member of St. Mary & St. Joseph Catholic Church and a member of the American Legion. She owned and operated the Western Auto Store with her husband Joe from 1958 through 1976. She also worked at Ken's His & Her's Shop for 21 years. In her spare time, Ruth enjoyed playing bingo and spending time with the family. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Memories of Ruth will be carried on by her loving family, her daughters; Debbie (Andy) Christ of Champion, Theresa (Bill) Bartlett of Newton Falls, her sons; Paul (Susan) Layshock of Warren, Kenneth Layshock of Newton Falls, Patrick (Sue) Layshock of Newton Falls, her sister; Helen Ballas of Newton Falls; her sister-in-law; Joann Smith of FL, 10 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph, her daughter, Nancy Moldovan and brothers; Art, Howard, Don, and Herbert Smith. Calling hours will be held on Friday, September 2, 2016 from 8:30 - 10:00 am at James Funeral Home. Prayer service will be held at 10:00 am at the funeral home followed by a funeral mass at St. Mary & St. Joseph Church at 10:30 am. Ruth will be laid to rest next to her husband, Joseph at St. Joseph's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family would like contributions made to, Newton Falls Preservation Foundation, PO Box 61, Newton Falls, OH 44444 or Hospice of The Valley, 5190 Market St., Youngstown, OH 44512.
