Newton Falls-- Stephen D. Georgalas, 70, with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Stephen D. Georgalas; a devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather, after a courageous battle with cancer on Thursday, July 11, 2013 at his residence with his loving family by his side. Steve was a kind, gentle, humble man, respected by all who knew him. Steve was born July 28, 1942, the son of Steve Georgalas & Doris Early. Steve will always be lovingly remembered by his wife, Margo, a daughter Jeannette of Niles and a son, Steven of Newton Falls and, grandchildren to whom he was "Papa," Brittany, Stephanie, Jacob, Natalie, Courtnie & Olivia; great-grandchildren: Anthony & Joey; siblings: Alex (Irene) of Niles, Tom (Stella) of Wellsville, Jeanie (Tom) of Warren & Ellen of Cortland. Besides his parents, Steve was predeceased by his brothers, Edward Georgalas, Robert "Tiny" Ellis & grand-daughter, Alyssa Georgalas. Steve enjoyed playing softball, fishing, golfing, (Steve shot a hole in one while playing in Hawaii), doing puzzles, watching the deer outside of his house, spending time with his dogs and especially entertaining his grandchildren. Steve attended Warren G. Harding High School. He then went on to become a fireman in the United States Air Force spending 4 of his most talked about years stationed in Hawaii. Steve then became a professional firefighter for the City of Warren for 28 years where he made lifelong friends with some of the most courageous and devoted men that he talked so highly about. Steve was also a member of the First Christian Church in Newton Falls and the Newton Falls Amvets. The family would like to offer special thanks to Dr. Hemrock, Oncologist, and the wonderful staff at the Hope Center for Cancer Care in Warren and The Cleveland Clinic for their compassionate care. There will be no visitation; cremation has taken place per Steve's wishes. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to First Christian Church, 17 North Center Street, Newton Falls, Ohio. The family of Steve Georgalas also wishes to thank Chuck and Irene Bayley for helping our family through this hard time.
