Obituary

Stevie Dale Elkins, age 66, of Palmyra Twp. passed away peacefully into eternal life on Wednesday, June 17, 2015 at 2:45 pm with his family by his side. He was born on May 28, 1949, in Raleigh,WV, the son of the late Elmer Elkins & Helen (Payne) Elkins. Stevie married the love of his life, Helen Deloras Pauley on June 27, 1970 and they enjoyed 44 years of marriage together. He has lived in Palmyra Township for 44 years, formerly of Lisbon, Ohio and Morrisville, WV. He worked as a Quality Control Engineer for General Motors for 35 years before retiring in 2005. He was a proud member of US Marines, serving during Vietnam, where he earned the Purple Heart. Stevie also served with the Army National Guard based out of the Akron Canton Airport for 6 years. He was a member of The Ravenna Assembly of God, The Charity Lodge in Deerfield, Lake Milton Fish & Game Club, and was a volunteer fireman & EMT for Palmyra Township Fire Dept. Stevie was a First Degree Black Belt in Karate. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, mowing his grass, telling stories & funny jokes, going to church, and helping people. He loved all people & animals. But most of all, he loved spending time with his grandchildren & family. Memories of Stevie will be carried on by his loving family; his wife Helen of Palmyra Twp.; his 2 daughters Stephanie Roman of Newton Falls, Jessica Baxter of Palmyra Twp.; his sister & brother-in-law Barbara Sue & Jerry Mullins of Morrisville, WV; his brother & sister-in-law Larry & Mary Ann Elkins of Diamond; his 2 grandchildren Audrey Roman & Dakota James Roman. Stevie was preceded in death by his parents, and 1 brother William Elkins. Calling hours will be held at the James Funeral Home in Newton Falls on Friday, June 19, 2015 from 5:00 to 8:00PM. Funeral Services will be held at the Ravenna Assembly of God, 6401 St. Rt.14 Ravenna, Ohio 44266 on Saturday, June 20, 2015 at 11:00AM. Rev. Gary Beck will be officiating. Stevie will be laid to rest in Palmyra West Cemetery in Diamond, OH. The family asks that all donations please be made to the Cleveland Clinic-- Taussig Cancer Institute 9500 Euclid Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio 44195 in memory of Stevie Elkins.
