Thomas Wilbur Whitacre, age 74, of Cortland, passed away peacefully into eternal rest on Friday night Oct. 19, 2018 at CHS of Niles. He was born on Nov. 17, 1943 in Newton Falls, OH the son of the late Wilbur M. Whitacre and Hazel E. (MacFaddyen) Whitacre. He served his country in the US Navy from 1961-1964. Thomas married the love of his life, Sandra Lee Dalrymple on June 15, 1963 and they enjoyed 55 years of marriage together. He has lived in Cortland since 2004, formerly of Braceville. Thomas worked as a supervisor at GM Lordstown for 36 years retiring in Jan. 2005. Then he worked at WalMart as a service writer for the Automotive Department 12 years. He is a member of the Braceville Christian Church where he was ordained Elder. Thomas loved to go camping, golfing, fishing, playing baseball, and coaching baseball. Thomas loved the little ones. He is preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers: Chuck, Johnny, & Alfred Whitacre, 1 sister: Rosemary Roach, and 1 great grandson: Beron Hopson.

He is survived by: his wife: Sandra L. Whitacre of Cortland, OH, 2 daughters: Renee & Chris Recklies of Cortland, OH, Stephanie Profera and Josh Eledge of Spartanburg, SC, 2 brothers: Robert Whitacre of Warren, OH, William Whitacre of Germany, 6 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren.

Calling hours for Thomas will be at the Braceville Christian Church on Friday Oct 26, 2018 from 6:00-8:00 pm. Funeral services will be at the church on Saturday Oct 27, 2018 at 11:30am with Rev. Jon Pratt officiating. Cremation will then take place after the funeral.
