Vera Goldie Wiczen, age 93 of Newton Falls passed away on Friday, December 9, 2016. Vera was born to the late Nicholas & Marie (Matachuk) Elie on April 15, 1923. She married the love of her life, James P. Wiczen, on October 22, 1948 and they enjoyed 55 blessed years of marriage before he passed on May 19, 2004. Vera and James were lifelong and faithful members of Saint Mary & Joseph's Church. They were best friends and well-known for their love of dancing and swimming. In addition to raising their four children, Vera worked at the Ravenna Arsenal in the 1960's and later retired from General Motors in 1978. Memories of Vera will be carried on by her loving family; her daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Jeffrey Smith of Kent, her son Richard Wiczen of Newton Falls, her son and daughter-in-law, James and Kathy Wiczen of Portage Lakes, her sisters Rose Duda and Eva Toboc, both of Warren, her grandchildren Tina, Anna, Katie, William, Anthony, Daniel and Nicholas, and nine great-grandchildren. Vera was preceded in death by her son Terrance and ten siblings: Charles, Nick, John, Ann, Keva, Pete, Joe, Jenny, Mary and Florence Elie. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, December 13, 2016 from 10:00 - 11:30 am at James Funeral Home. The funeral service will immediately follow at 11:30 am. Vera will be laid to eternal rest next to her husband James at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Newton Falls. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to all of those who lovingly cared for her.
